How can we help?

Answers to common questions, help with your subscription, and a direct line to us. We usually reply within 1–2 business days.

Manage or cancel your subscription

Apple and Google bill and manage subscriptions, so you change or cancel yours in your store account, not in the app.

iPhone

Open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → LimitBeep.

Or open apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.

Android

Open the Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.

Or open play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.

Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Restore a purchase

Reinstalled the app or got a new phone? Open LimitBeep and tap Restore purchase on the subscription screen. It works on any phone signed in to the Apple ID or Google account you subscribed with.

The free trial

  • Both plans start with a 7-day free trial. You choose a plan and confirm it with Apple or Google, and you aren’t charged during the trial.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won’t be charged at all. Otherwise your plan starts automatically.
  • The trial is available once per Apple ID or Google account, across both plans. If you’ve already had it, the plan starts right away, and Apple or Google shows the price before you confirm.

Refunds

Apple and Google handle all payments, so refunds are requested from them under their own policies.

  • iPhone: use reportaproblem.apple.com. Only Apple can refund App Store purchases.
  • Android: request a refund from your order history in Google Play. If Google can’t help, message us: we may refund Google Play purchases at our discretion.

Common questions

Getting started

Which phones does it work on?

iPhones running iOS 15 or later, and Android phones running Android 7.0 or later. It needs a phone with GPS, so it isn’t offered on tablets without one, and it needs precise location and an internet connection while you drive.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. You must be 16 or older, or hold a learner’s permit. If you’re under 18, you can use LimitBeep only with a parent’s or guardian’s consent. In many states, drivers under 18 or with a learner’s or provisional license may not use a phone at all while driving, even hands-free. If that applies to you, set the app up before the drive and keep the phone out of sight; the beep needs no touching.

Why does it ask for location twice?

The first request, when you open the app, is enough to get started. Starting by itself needs more, and each phone handles that differently:

  • iPhone only offers “Always” the second time an app asks. When you switch alerts on, the app asks again, and that’s when “Always” appears.
  • Android only offers “Allow all the time” in Settings, so the app takes you there: open Permissions, then Location, then Allow all the time.

Without it, your phone won’t restart the app when you start driving.

Why does it need precise location?

Approximate location can be off by about a kilometer, which is too far to tell which road you’re on. Without precise location, the app can’t look up the right limit.

Do I need to open the app before I drive?

No. Once alerts are on, it starts by itself when you drive and sleeps after you park, even if you’ve closed it.

Two things stop that until you open the app again: force-stopping it in Android’s Settings, and swiping it away in the iPhone app switcher. After a swipe-away, iPhone won’t restart it until you open it or restart the phone.

Alerts

When exactly does it alert me?

When your speed is over the posted limit by more than your alert margin, which you can set from 0 to 20 mph (+5 by default). There are no alerts where the posted limit is under 20 mph, such as parking lots, and no lookups while you’re below 15 mph. It beeps once when you go over, then every 12 seconds while you stay over, and again straight away if your speed rises another 5 mph or more.

Why didn’t I hear an alert?

Check these first: you may have been within your margin, the limit may have been under 20 mph, or the app may have shown “--” because it couldn’t confirm the limit.

Alerts can also be late or missed when GPS is weak, the connection drops, the phone is in a battery-saving mode, permissions have changed, or media volume is turned down. No alert never means you’re within the limit.

Why does it show “--” instead of a limit?

It couldn’t confirm the limit for the road you’re on, for example where the map data has no posted limit, or when you’ve lost signal. Rather than guess, it stays quiet until it can confirm one.

Will I hear it over music or navigation? Does it work on silent?

Alerts play at your phone’s media volume, the one used for music and videos, so keep it turned up. On iPhone, other audio dips briefly while the alert plays, and alerts still sound when the Ring/Silent switch is set to silent.

Are temporary limits and school zones included?

No. Map data doesn’t include temporary or variable limits, school zones in effect, or road works, and a safe speed can be well below the posted limit. Always follow the signs.

Does it show km/h?

No. Speeds and limits are shown in miles per hour.

Does it detect speed cameras or police?

No. LimitBeep tells you the posted limit and when you’re over it. It isn’t a radar, laser, camera or police detector.

Battery, data & background

Will it drain my battery?

GPS runs while you drive, which uses some power. Once you’ve been parked for a few minutes, the app turns GPS off until you drive again. On Android, allowing the battery-optimization exemption keeps monitoring reliable.

Does it need internet? How much data does it use?

Yes. Speed limits come from our server, and it uses roughly 1–2 MB of data per hour of driving. If you lose signal, the app pauses alerts and tells you, then resumes by itself within seconds of the connection returning.

What notifications does it show?

Android requires an ongoing notification while an app tracks location in the background. Apart from that, LimitBeep only shows a reminder before a subscription renews (before each annual renewal, and once a year for a monthly plan). It never sends marketing notifications.

Subscription & privacy

I have a promo code. How do I use it?

Redeem it in your phone’s store. On iPhone, open the App Store, tap your profile picture, then Redeem Gift Card or Code. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Redeem code. The offer’s length and the price that follows are shown before you redeem it. When it ends, the subscription renews at the regular price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.

Can I use one subscription on iPhone and Android?

No. A subscription belongs to the store you bought it from and can’t be moved between Apple and Google.

Do you keep a record of where I drive?

No. Your location is used to look up the speed limit. Positions go into a shared speed-limit cache without your account ID, and no history of your drives is kept linked to you. The Privacy Policy has the details.

How do I delete my data?

Open the app’s Privacy Policy screen and tap Delete my data, or email us the anonymous ID shown on that screen. The details are on Delete your data.
